DAY 12 - 12/12/06 - Murdered Again

Today: -$178.30
To date: -162.45
To go: $975.45
Bankroll: $1441.65

317 hands *** 1.35 hours *** -88.63 PTbb/100 *** 23.03/15.14 *** MT:3.15

Got absolutely killed today. Analyzed some hands in Pokertracker where I lost a ton.

Hand #1: J-10 Sooted in SB. I limp into short stack BB who makes it $2. I call and see flop of 10-9-2 rainbow. I check raise his c-bet to $12 and he goes all in for $14 more and I call to see his A-10 and lose $30. http://www.pokerhand.org/?678061

Hand #2:A-10 in BB. Button 3 bets to $1.50, so I call. Flop is A-J-7. I check to button and he checks. Turn is a 10. I bet pot and he raises me to $10. I call and check call his river pot bet to see his KQ. Probably should came out firing on flop and when I got check raised on turn, shoulda mucked. 2 mistakes in 1 hand: http://www.pokerhand.org/?678066

Hand #3: QJ sooted on the button. UTG weak player mini raises. I repop him to $3 and he calls. Flop is 9-5-J with 2 hearts. He checks and I bet $4 into 6.75 pot and he mini raises to $8. Turn is 3 hearts. He bets 7 into 23. I call. Riv is another 3 and He bets 12 into 37 and i call and pay off his flush. After the hand he apes me for reraising with QJs? Guy at my table stuck up for me. He said UTG was awful to call reraise with Q-10 and then Check raising out of position with heart draw was donkish too. I didn't say anything. Kinda agreed:http://www.pokerhand.org/?678068

Hand #4: Pocket 99 On button. Raise and get called by BB. Flop is Q high, and he comes out firing. I call him down to the end and try to make a move when river pairs. Of course he called with KQ. http://www.pokerhand.org/?678071

Couple of other hands I come in raising and make c-bet to get called. Shut down on turn and call river bets in position when I caught a piece.

Then I Played some $1/2 NL CAP game with Erbo and got stacked for $60 with JJ vs A-10. Flop had overs and made c-bet. Got called and shoulda shut down. Turn brought str8 draw and I fired 2nd barrell and got called by A-10. I was at a point where I was down over 250 for the day and then made a little come back and logged off. $120 of my loss was from $50 NL.

In the middle of playing, Full Tilt Crashed. All my tables were super slow and it kicked me off 1 time. I lost momentum and blew thru $20 timing out, etc. I logged off at that point and decided to wait til later.

ANALYSIS: I think i played awful today. I called people down with middle pair when I shoulda just folded. I think I called way too many hands out of position too and had no idea where I was at when I caught a piece of the flop. My attempt to steal blinds and VIP and PF raise numbers are right where I wanted them today. I need to work on my post-flop play.

Gotta fix those leaks man. Can't be calling people down. I'm gonna post something in a second that i think will be helpful.

There are 3 big secrets to the game. If you can master these, then you will crush this level.
1.) Changing gears - You need to actively be thinking about changing gears every 15-20 minutes or so. Start off aggressive to develop an image, and then tighten up and people will still think you are being aggressive. when you start to get too much respect, then aggro it up again. You have to do this to manipulate your image to keep your opponents guessing. I won't take that much to frustrate the players at $50NL.
2.) Blocker bets - When you are unsure of where you are in the hand - blocker bet it. Bet about 70% pot, and if you get raised FOLD every time. People will not raise you unless they have you beat at this level. Example. You raise AQ and flop with QTx and c-bet and get called. if a 9 hits the turn, bet again, but blocker bet. If he has KJ, he will raise you, if not he may just call down with KQ/QJ/AT. So its a clockerbet / value bet - and your opponents wont be able to tell the difference. So you should never worry about someone "sniffing out your blocker bet" and trying to push you off the hand.
If you have AQ and the board is AJT and you bet flop, are called, bet turn are called, bet river, are raised, then FOLD it. Anyone with Ax is going to just call you down. Any hand that you can beat (like A5) will not be raising you - they just want to show it down. So whenever you are raised, i'd say you are folding to that raise 90% of the time (unless they are short stacked/commited to the pot). There is a LOT to say about pot control at this level of the game.
3.) Let people bluff you. It's ok. Good players are supposed to make laydowns. It's ok. What matters, is that folding KK on an A high flop in the long run will be profitable. Folding A9 on a AJ5 flop for a full buyin is correct. So what if some guy raises on a bluff and you have to lay it down. Fold it and move on to the next hand. It's ok to let people take some pots off of you. If people are doing this alot, then look to trap them with a hand. Don't get cute and try something tricky, and never ever ever take it personally. Control your emotions at the table, or leave and come back tomorrow. The game and the donks will still be there.

These 3 are all REALLY important in ABC poker. Esp #2. If people riase your bets and you dont have a big hand, then just let it go and move on to the next hand.
